Reason for sale

I bought the Defender recently with the intention of converting it into a camper. A change in circumstances and residency plans means it is being sold before the conversion has started.

No camper furniture, bed or kitchen has been installed, so the rear remains available as a blank base for a conversion or work use.

This is a high-mileage, usable Defender rather than a restored or low-mileage collector's vehicle. Viewing is welcome and the photographs include detailed views of the underside and bodywork.

The useful bits

  • 2.2 TDCi diesel
  • Six-speed manual
  • Two previous keepers

The vehicle-history report was checked on 4 February 2026. It records 218,837 miles at the December 2025 MOT; the current mileage is approximately 220,000 miles.

Maintenance history

Substantial itemised workshop history is recorded up to 210,504 miles, approximately 10,000 miles ago. It covers routine servicing and significant mechanical work during the past 100,000 miles.

  • 14 October 2020 - 159,603 milesRadiator, four injectors, four glow plugs, clutch components, belt, hoses and seals, followed by an engine-oil change.

  • 8 November 2019 - 131,624 milesReconditioned transfer box, gearbox output shaft, drive flange and oil seals, wheel-bearing work, drop-arm ball joint, handbrake shoes and EGR valve.

Substantial work is also recorded on both axles, including front swivel housings and kingpin bearings, wheel bearings, hub flanges and seals, and both rear halfshafts.

Important: this is a substantial itemised workshop history, but it should not be described as a complete or manufacturer-stamped service history. It does not document every service interval or guarantee the present condition of each listed component. Previous customer and vehicle identity numbers have been masked in the public PDF.

The honest bit

The Defender was originally white, was subsequently painted orange, and was painted black before my ownership. The black finish looks presentable, but it is not a concours-quality paint job and there are age-related marks and imperfections.

The underside is honest rather than freshly covered in underseal. There is general surface corrosion consistent with its age and use. A previous MOT recorded chassis corrosion without a significant reduction in structural rigidity, along with a non-excessive oil leak. It passed its latest MOT.

I also have new front-door hinges and new seals for the front and rear doors. I intend to fit these before collection; if timing does not allow, all the new parts will be supplied with the vehicle.
