Ready for its next adventure

2013 Defender 110 Hard Top

In a slightly ridiculous twist, AI helped make the current owner redundant - and now an AI bot is helping write the advert. Add a change in residency plans, and this big black Defender needs a new adventure before we even got as far as building the bed.

The story

We genuinely did buy it to build a camper and go exploring. Life simply changed direction before the tools came out, so the next owner gets the blank canvas rather than somebody else's half-finished conversion.

It runs and drives well. I drove it around 200 miles home after buying it without any problems.

It has a substantial itemised maintenance history covering much of its life, with regular servicing and considerable mechanical work over the years.

It is not a polished, low-mileage collector's Defender - and it would never pretend to be. It is a usable, characterful 110 that could make a cracking work vehicle, weekend truck or camper-conversion base.

The useful bits

  • 2.2 TDCi diesel
  • Six-speed manual
  • Two previous keepers
  • History check recorded no outstanding finance
  • History check recorded no theft
  • History check recorded no insurance write-off
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Dual-battery system with charge diverter
  • Rear sound-deadened and foil-lined
  • Chequer-plate rear floor and wheel boxes
  • Bulkhead previously lowered behind the seats
  • No camper furniture, bed or kitchen fitted

The vehicle-history report was checked on 4 February 2026. It records 218,837 miles at the December 2025 MOT; the current odometer reading supplied for this advert is approximately 219,550 miles.

A life well maintained

The reconstructed 11-page workshop history records routine servicing and a considerable amount of mechanical investment, including work in these areas:

Read the itemised service history (PDF)

  • Turbocharger, seals and intake system
  • Radiator, intercooler and cooling system
  • Clutch kit and clutch hydraulics
  • Gearbox, propshaft and driveline components
  • Front and rear brakes
  • Suspension and steering
  • Wheel bearings, hubs and flanges
  • Starter motor, battery and electrical parts

Important: this is a summary of the visible itemised history, not proof of a complete service history. It does not guarantee the present condition of every listed component. Previous customer and vehicle identity numbers have been masked in the public PDF.

The honest bit

This Defender has tried a few outfits: it started life white, was subsequently painted orange, and was painted black before my ownership. The black finish looks presentable, but it is not a concours-quality paint job and there are age-related marks and imperfections.

The underside is honest rather than freshly covered in underseal. There is general surface corrosion consistent with its age and use. A previous MOT recorded chassis corrosion without a significant reduction in structural rigidity, along with a non-excessive oil leak. It passed its latest MOT.

I also have new front-door hinges and new seals for the front and rear doors. I intend to fit these before collection; if timing does not allow, all the new parts will be supplied with the vehicle.

Viewing welcome by arrangement
